October Meeting Presentation Topic:

Speaking for the deceased can be rewarding, yet must be respectful…
The staff of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner recognizes and is sensitive to the personal tragedy surrounding an untimely or violent death. The staff members interrelate daily with families of victims and many other entities involved concerning medical, dental, toxicology, cause and manner of death, organ donation and possible other sensitive subjects.  While HIPAA dies with the patient, our agency is held by law to maintain much of the privacy of the deceased all the while reporting drug use/trends, public health factors, execution information, consumer product safety and identifying the unidentified.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner represents a resource of impartial professionals and support staff providing continuous objective medicolegal investigations to the people of Oklahoma.

Presented by Amy Elliott, Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.  Amy’s responsibilities include organizing and directing all phases of the agency.  Amy has been with the agency for seven years and works closely with the Chief Medical Examiner, Governor and capitol staff, law enforcement, Attorney Generals, District Attorneys, Funeral Homes, and families of lost loved ones.
Amy was appointed by Governor Fallin as a member of the Anatomical Board.  She holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and has served over 30 years as a state employee.  She resides in Norman, OK and has been married to her husband Ken for 30 years and has two sons, Kendall and Kyle.
